A Bit Of An Update

Well it's time for a well overdue update to this site. Thanks for checking on our progress and sorry I haven't been more frequent with my updates.
What a hectic few weeks we have had in the TopGear Motorsport shed. Since the last update we have done meetings in Auckland, Palmy, Rotorua, Palmy and Auckland. I'll give you a brief run down on those and a look at what's happening over the next few weeks.

Auckland Champs
We packed up the truck and headed to Waikaraka Park for the Auckland Superstock Champs. There was a good field of 18 cars and it was a good nights racing. Had two good first races and was leading the last until I got a flat right rear tyre which I ran on for 6 laps and still finished. When the points were tallied we were 3rd overall behind Pat and Stan.

Global Challenge
The night after the Auckland champs we were in Palmy for the Global challenge, This was mainly to have a run at Palmy before the teams in two weeks time. Car performed really well but again we ended up with two punctures which put us out of contention.

We traveled home and sorted the issue we were having with tyres and started preparing the car for teams champs.

Teams Champs
A huge effort was put in to prepare the car for our first foray into teams racing. Dad and I spent many late nights in the shed making spares etc. Rotorua had got a good team together this year and we were pretty confident we could put on a good show.

What a great weekend it was, the team clicked and we all got along so well, from the moment we met at my workshop to travel down on Thursday night I knew we had a good chance.
I did the 4 races over the weekend at Palmy and I think I started to get to grips with what is a new form of racing for me. The crew all enjoyed themselves and we came away with just the one loss to Nelson. The atmosphere was unbelievable and I must thank all the Rebels fans for their support, it was overwhelming. Bring on Palmy 2010.

North Island Champs
After a couple of weeks off racing we prepared the car and headed to Auckland for the North Island Champs. The weather looked dodgy from the start but that was out of Waikaraka Park's control. Friday nights qualifying went well for us, the only hick up being a loose power steer hose in the last heat which resulted in doing half the race without power assistance. We ended up second in our group.

On Saturday we went down to PG Hydraulics and sorted the steering issue. Phil was kind enough to let us use his awesome wash bay to clean our car. We did the clean up and prepared the car for Sunday afternoon as Saturday had been cancelled.

Sunday turned into a hot day and I was looking forward to the racing. I drew grid 10 which meant I'd start 23 in heat 2 and 8 in Heat 3.
We followed Joe Faram home in Heat one and finished 2nd. The crew had a bit of repair work to do between races as we had bent the back bumper on the pit gate.
Heat two I was last after 1st turn and had a lot of work to do. I worked my way through the field to come home in 4th. So after 2 heats the points were Stan 50 Joe and myself on 48 and then a big gap back to Simon Joblin.

I was pretty confident as I had the closest grid to front, after a bout 3 laps I hit the front and didn't look back. The race win was enough to give us the North Island title. Congratulations to Joe and Simon for their second and third placings. Everyone at TopGear Motorsport was happy with the result and it made for a pleasant trip home.

Our next meeting is Rotorua this weekend for the last round of the House of Travel series. Hope to see you there.

Until Next time
Scott.
